The Mastiff is a large dog that was originally bred as a hunting/guard dog. They have a short coat that requires little grooming. A big active dog, the Mastiff requires regular exercise. Although a big dog, mastiffs make quiet, loving family pets, tolerant of children and other animals. As a natural guard dog they are wary of strangers. They are intelligent and easy to train, socialization and training should start at a young age.
