The German Shepherd is a large dog originally bred as a working dog. They have a dense medium length coat that requires little grooming. A very active dog the German Shepherd needs regular exercise. A very intelligent dog with incredible learning ability. They need to be socialized and trained from an early age to prevent from being over protective when older. A great family dog but are very wary of strangers and should be supervised with children.
