The Doberman is a large dog originally bred as a police dog. Their short naturally shiny coat needs little grooming. An energetic dog that requires lots of exercise. An intelligent dog that can be easily trained. Socialization and training from an early age is recommended. The Doberman makes an excellent family guard dog, although children should be supervised, they tend not to tolerate animals or strangers.
