The Chow Chow is a large dog originally bred as a hunting guard dog. They have a very dense double layer coat that requires a high level of grooming. An independent dog, the Chow Chow is wary of strangers, children and animals, yet loyal to their master. They tend to be difficult to train so diligent training and socialization needs to start at a young age.
